The Process & The Kitchen Design & Build In Progress

This kitchen renovation was carefully planned to transform a tight and restrictive kitchen into a more functional and attractive space. Through thoughtful reconfiguration, quality materials and skilled installation, the project was completed efficiently while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship throughout.

Key stages of the project included:

  • Initial Consultation & Survey – Discussed the client’s goals, focusing on increasing worktop space and improving the overall layout of the kitchen.

  • Design & Planning – Developed a layout that maximised the limited space while incorporating appliances, oak worktops and a clean tiled splashback.

  • Preparation & Trade Coordination – Organised the required trades including an electrician, gas engineer and tiler to ensure the project ran smoothly.

  • Installation & Reconfiguration – Installed the kitchen, fitted solid oak timber worktops, completed wall tiling, carried out electrical work, disconnected gas and removed the radiator to free up space.

  • Finishing Touches & Bespoke Details – Crafted a custom draining board, chopping board and soap dish from the oak worktop off-cuts, completing the kitchen with unique handcrafted features.

Here you can see the work involved and what the space looked like as things progressed.

Key features of the finished kitchen:

  • Solid oak timber worktops – Natural, durable surfaces that add warmth and character

  • Increased worktop space – Improved layout providing more room for food preparation

  • Modern wall tiles – Clean splashback that enhances the overall design

  • Integrated appliances – Creating a tidy and practical working kitchen

  • Bespoke oak accessories – Custom draining board, chopping board and soap dish crafted from worktop off-cuts

  • Professional installation – Delivered with high attention to detail and pride in workmanship

"I recently had a kitchen fitted by Scott at SJM Kitchens, which included tiling and a solid oak worktop. The attenuation to detail, professionalism and pride in his workmanship was outstanding. Scott also created a bespoke draining board, chopping board and soap dish from the off-cuts. This was a fantastic addition and reflects the overall high standards he delivered."
